She was also kind enough to mention that The Intrepid Thread is doing a quilt along on flickr. C'mon, quilting along > quilting alone, right? And as luck would have it, May is month #1 ;) They're (well, we're) doing blocks that end in "1" for May, "2" for June, and so on in case you want to join in.
Edited to add: Thank you Jess (!) for also letting me in on the Sew Sweetness Tula Pink sew-along. Sara's group is tackling the blocks in order and it looks like weekly link-ups will be starting next Monday!
As I was flipping through the book, I couldn't quite figure out what fabric to use. Rainbow palettes are fun, but I've got quite a splash of color in this selvage quilt to tide me over for the time being:
While perusing my stash, I happened upon some feedsacks I'd picked up a while back and thought, "Why not?" I have a decent variety on hand, so old farm fabric—and perhaps some new additions from my bid list (hey, ebay habits die hard)—it will be.
I guess I can also appreciate the irony of using traditional country cloth for a city sampler of modern blocks. And I have to say I'm liking the look! Of course the varying fabric weights make ironing a little more taxing than normal, but at least it keeps things interesting ;)
In other news, I'm at a standstill with my BBP quilt because I am absolutely determined to find a way to incorporate these lovely leftover fabric strips:
Also, earlier today I uploaded a free pattern to craftsy for BB #2726 ("Boston Pavement") in case you're interested! (Think steam punk, but without any curved piecing or applique).
Linking up with Lee!
Love the sampler quilt in the vintage fabrics- that is a very different take then most will go with that book which will make it much more interesting! Love it!
ReplyDeleteloving those feedsack prints!! thanks for the pattern too!
ReplyDeleteYay for the win! And I agree with Molly, its going to be fab - also check out Sara sew sweetness QAL for the book (which I'm doing) - I'm thinking both would be good!
ReplyDeleteOh, you're non-curvy Steam Punk pattern is fabulous! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThe feed sacks are a fantastic choice for your modern sampler! I love it!
ReplyDeleteI love that you've used the feed sacks that way - perfect. Congratulations on winning the prize you lucky thing!
ReplyDeleteI think the feedsack idea is perfect!
ReplyDeleteI think those scraps could definitely be sewed together for some sort of border/pieced back. I would be super annoyed with not being able to use it for something. :)
ReplyDeleteI love tula pink's book, you totally won the jackpot with that one! I think that you could use those pieces for a strip going down the back of your quilt. =) And can't wait to watch your progress of your city sampler quilt!
ReplyDeleteI have no ideas but I think you MUST find a way to use those leftovers in your quilt. They are fabulous!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the pattern it is fab! I have that Tula Pink book on my list, lol!!
ReplyDeleteAn idea for your leftover strips: cut once in the solid piece (maintaining the angle). Cut in random places so each colored piece has a different sized solid attached to it. Strip these together, solid to print. You could either keep the same fabrics together or mix them up. I can't tell how much area that would cover, but it would make a cool stripe (horizontal, diagonal, or vertical) for a pieced back.
ReplyDeleteI hope that makes sense - I'm still on my first cup of coffee!
Congrats on the win! I would also be trying to use those strips. I think a double border would look rockin!
ReplyDeleteThe leftovers Look great. I am curious, what you are going to do with it...
ReplyDeleteCongrats! I love everything I'm seeing, can't wait to see more, of the feed sacks, especially. Cute cute!
ReplyDeleteCongrats! I am hoping to do the tula quilt along as well....see you there :-)
ReplyDeleteI picked up Tula's new book for my ereader and love it! Love the idea to use the feed sacks!
ReplyDeleteAs for the BBP, i'm at a loss, but you're right, they definitely need to be part of the finished quilt!
Congrats on the win. I love the look of your leftovers and hope you fins a way to work them in.
ReplyDeleteWOW! I cannot believe that you got the package that fast! I saw those TP blocks on the Flickr group but didn't realize they were yours until I checked my Google Reader last night. They look fantastic!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the win! How fun! Love the Modern/Vintage quilt you've got going on! Such sweet and lovely irony!
