tiny-ness take two: round vs. square?

So perhaps you noticed my little foray into miniature foundation paper piecing last week and dismissed me as having gone off the deep end.  The following post is probably not for you ;)

For those of you intrigued by the madness, I have a question for you.  When it comes to 4⅛" stones as far as the eye can see... round or square? (imperfections included)

Sidebar:  I've removed the dresden gradient from the equation because that's not quite what I had in mind for this particular project (though thanks to everyone's encouragement it's definitely on the wish {wait} list).

And to the extent context is helpful, there will still be a gradient involved (it'll just be not-so-gray), and I'll be replacing the square blocks in a traditional pattern with these diamond blocks.  Lots of them.

Now, which (if either) would catch your eye scattered in a queen king size quilt?

Thanks, friends!

P.S.  For those of you who've taken the time to comment the past week I wanted to let you know I am totally smitten with your kind words and am thrilled to say I'll be doing much more sewing+email catch-up (and a little less toddler-chasing) in the very near future :)
P.P.S.  Linking up with Lee!

  12. I like the round one slightly better -- but they're both great! I'm tempted to give them a try myself, even though I've only paper pieced once ...

  15. Both incredible but there is something about that round block that is mind-blowingly-beautiful.

  16. This is a hard choice!! I love both, and they each have their own 'Sparkle' yet different from each other. Fantastic designs and amazing piecing skills can't wait to see more!

  18. Oh I noticed I hope you get a real diamond bigger than that one!

  19. I like the round diamonds best - but so much work!

  22. I think I am the only one, but I like the square better - both are gorgeous (and slightly mad) though.

  23. Like everyone else, I think they both look amazing. Forced to choose one, I think I like the round one best, though. Can't wait to see what you end up making with them!

  24. I love both, but if I had to choose. I would choose round.

  25. Both great! If I had to pick I think a whole quilt with the round ones would be amazing.

  26. Both are incredible but I'd pick the round :)

  27. You have gone off the deep end ;) but I like the squares. I like the thin little strips that change the tones of the diagonal pieces.

  28. I still think there's a spelling mistake ;-)

  29. Both look pretty cool but the square one looks more like a star to me than diamond. I'm missing some simple shape in the middle if you know what I mean. The flat top of the diamond. BTW all kind of shapes would be pretty cool on quilt. You go girl!

  30. And the square one rocks my socks, too. Could you do both? Or if they are not working for you, my address is.... :-)

  31. They are both very interesting but I must say I do like the round one best. Really looking forward to seeing the quilt when it is made.
